Exam fear is an awful sensation that we many people experience. From those early school examinations we sat, right through to the Civil Service test – examinations never get any easier. But there is one thing you can do though to give yourself the best chance possible at getting a great mark. And that item is called preparation.

Without preparing for an exam you can’t possibly hope to pass. And preparation may seem like a drag at the time, but the benefits are huge when you take your seat in the exam room and begin the real test. After all, there’s nothing worse than turning over your exam page to begin your test and not knowing the answer to any of the questions. And as you probably can imagine, this can happen to even the most brightest of test takers. And that is where proper test prep comes into the equation.

The most common type of help for these types of examinations comes in the form of a Civil Service study guide. This is because using one is a very useful learning resource that will help you best prepare for what is most likely to be on the real examination. Furthermore, these resources are rich in content which will help you best tackle the questions most likely to be on the test and it should even offer you a look at past question formats. These tactics can really help you become one step ahead of other candidates. This is because once you have learned prior experience of the general test format; it can really pay dividends.

And please do not forget that competition for jobs is only getting harder, so it is critical to make yourself stand out with a great mark on your particular examination. Plus, sometimes a passing score just is not enough to get hired. Meaning, often times you really need to blow your test away by scoring higher than your competition to get that career you are after.

In the end, by thoroughly preparing for your examination you’ll really be helping yourself in the long run because you will have a strong foundation and understanding of what you can most likely expect. And utilizing a Civil Service study guide is the perfect partner for anyone who is serious about passing their particular test the first time around.

However difficult exam may be, however uninteresting the subject is, a student has to be diligent in his/her studying. And in fact, if a student follows some simple steps, he/she will pass an exam painlessly.

Reducing tensions

Everybody gets nervous before an important event. For student, exams are of paramount importance. So, it is necessary to reduce tensions, lessen stress during preparation period and get down to the preparations:

Remember, an exam is just a chance to demonstrate exceptional knowledge;

Everybody gets nervous, it is ok;

Get some sleep;

Drink some tea or water. Do not panic.

Avoiding mistakes

Here are some common student mistakes that are made during preparations:

One may be worried about his/her ability to learn a large amount of material. So, a way out he/she finds is not to learn at all. Remember, better the devil you know. More than that, neglect of preparation may result in fail. So, take a challenge.

Another mistake students make is thinking that everything could be done during one day. This is not true. Preparation is a very time-consuming and effort-consuming undertaking. To concentrate one should put aside his/her video games, cell phones, magazines, etc. The next step one should do is to make books and notes his/her best friends for the period of preparation.

Another way to lessen anxiety is to be creative. As easy as that. It is necessary just to find some creative approach to studying. Make a quiz. When preparation is almost done, a student can ask his/her friend to fire questions at him/her. It should be fun and helpful. Use multicolored stickers for notes and books. It can also bring good mood.

The last but not the least student mistake is that he/she prepares for exams without any breaks. Cramming all knowledge to head may be very unnerving and tiresome.

Try to avoid those mistakes and be challenging and creative. Remember an exam is just a step to success.

Exams are the yardsticks through which the performance of a particular individual is evaluated. It is an obvious fact then that the examination and its preparation play a very significant part in an individual’s academic record. Every individual wants to excel in the exams but only a few know the proper technique to score the maximum possible marks in a particular examination. To help the students to tackle the problems and fears regarding the exams, following are the main tips for the most efficient exam preparation.

1. The first step toward an efficient exam preparation is to make sure that the students start early. It is true that the preparation for the exams get vigorous in the last few days of the exams, but the wisest students prefer to keep it slow and steady.
2. To be familiar with the examination pattern, one should collect the previous year’s exam papers. This inculcates the confidence in the students to take the exam with a trust in them.
3. Plan the time for an efficient exam preparation. Those who organize their time according to the syllabus left are the ones who are successful in obtaining the maximum marks in the exams.
4. If it is possible, then one should always talk to a person who has already appeared in the particular exam. This helps in a lot as it reveals some unknown aspects of the exam.

Keeping apart the academic factors, there are several physical factors that play a crucial role in efficient exam preparation. The person who is going to appear in the exam should have ample sleep before the exam. The routine should be kept as normal as possible and one should avoid heavy and oily food.

It should always be considered that a healthy mind with a healthy body is the combination that is required for the maximization of results.

Within our time in school studying, we are bound to take as many exams along the way. All of these can sometimes stress us a lot. We are always bothered how we are going to get high scores. Sometimes, we work really hard studying our lessons but still, we only get an average result. In order to perform best in your examinations, there should be a lot of preparation. The amount of preparation will determine how confident you will be when taking your exams.

Different people have different strategies on their exam preparations. Some people only studies moments before the test, while others study months before it. No matter which way suits for you, you have to make sure that you do it effectively.

The best way of studying is the willingness to learn. When one has the amount of determination and interest with the given subject, he will be eager in studying it. For example, if we do not like a math subject perhaps, we will always have low grades on it. Why? Because we do not find it interesting, and that is why we just take it for granted. Remember that if you take time to learn something you do not like, you will find interest from it after some time. If you are willing to study it and offer more time for that certain subject, you will not find difficulty when taking an exam.

The best technique some students do when they need to prepare for examinations is to study it from the time it was discussed in class. This means that the moment it has been taught, always think of it and remember the details. It will be best if you study all the week’s lessons every end of the week. Do that habit each passing week so you are stocking knowledge into your mind one at a time. People who studies only before the exam will find a lot of difficulty because they are cramming all the lessons and try recalling them all at once. This can really stress the mind, and you even might find difficulty trying to remember them all.

But study them week after week; it will be just an exercise for you. Just like when we have a new regular task. For example, if we are told to do the groceries every week, we need to do it once a week and for the coming weeks. Each week, if we come to that particular day of doing the grocery, we do not have to remember it, because it is already programmed in our minds that there s a task we should do, and it is doing the grocery. If you put to your mind a task and decide to do it every specific time, then you do not have to stress it out when doing it.

Forgetting is the very last thing a student wants when exam preparations is at hand. We have to make sure that we know the techniques on how to remember all the things we should be doing and lessons us should be studying at that time. Do that once at a time, and you will even avoid having mental blocks.

Civil Services Continues to be the first career choice of career aspirants in India. But have you ever wondered what it entails to become an IAS officer.

1.First of all what you need to have is a thirst to excel and to keep your dream alive by working for it. “Yes, I want to become an IAS Officer, and I will work hard for it from this moment.” If you think this value is instilled in you very strongly, continue reading the following mantras.

2.Know all about the IAS Exam. Starting 2011 Exam, it will be CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) in place of the present Preliminary Exam. Those who pass the CSAT will be eligible for the Civil Services main Exam followed by the interview.

3.Start reading an English newspaper on a daily basis and make it a habit to write notes on important news reports. Buy one Year Book, preferably India Year Book 2010, published by Publications Division, Government of India.

4.Select a Good Coaching Centre like JTS Institute, Bangalore, that offers you good teachers, study material, study plan and above all good classmates. Start your classes (for IAS 2011) from May itself, if possible. JTS Institute starts its first batch for 2011 Exam on May 2, 2010. Admission to this batch is restricted through a screening interview.

5.Have a good study plan. As the exam pattern is being changed with the introduction of CSAT, it is better to complete the entire portions of the Mains (GS plus 2 Optional or at least 1 optional) before January 2011. From January, your entire time should be earmarked for the CSAT.

6.Post CSAT, the preparation should be continued without any break. The following five months will be more crucial than the months prior to the CSAT and the preparation should be at full momentum. After the main exam, interview preparation should begin.

No matter how much or how little you study one thing is crucial for you to realize; you are being tested by an examination so you must practice answering examination questions. How you approach these practice questions will greatly affect your exam success. Here’s what you have to do. Never answer questions with the text book or study notes in front of you. It is essential that you practice your exam questions under the same conditions you will face in the exam!

Even if you promise yourself not to look, a brief glance unknown to yourself will help you answer a part of a question and lead to believe that you know it when you don’t! When you find yourself hitting a brick wall in an exam on material you thought you knew, this can be one of the causes. Even the psychological comfort of having your study notes nearby is something you won’t have in the exam and once you find yourself without them you will feel the pressure.

Time yourself. Write down the time at the start of each question and at the end. Don’t worry if you go over the allocated time, you will improve with practice. But do keep an eye on how long you are taking. If you are consistently over the time, then either you are writing too much or you do not know your content well enough and you are taking too long to think about it.

Usually if you have practiced a lot and are still taking too long, you do know your material but are writing too much. Pay more attention to the wording of your questions, and the marks awarded for each section, if this is available. This will help you gauge the depth required. Ask your teacher to correct some of your answers to see what you can safely leave out.
